Our story

At Bodega Los Frutales, our passion for wine is evident in every bottle we produce. Our unwavering commitment to quality has earned us a reputation as one of the most respected wineries in the region.

Located just outside the charming town of Ronda, our winery is steeped in history and culture. Legend has it that Julius Caesar's troops retired to this very spot to make wine after the Battle of Arcinpino. Since then, the region has attracted artists, writers, and adventurers from around the world, including such icons as Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles.

Today, Bodega Los Frutales is leading Ronda's emergence as one of Spain's most exciting wine regions. With a rich and storied winemaking heritage dating back centuries, our winery is proud to be part of this dynamic and rapidly evolving community.

Our commitment to experimentation and innovation allows us to create unique and delicious wines that capture the essence of this vibrant region.

The history

The winemaking history of Ronda can be traced back to the Roman Empire when the region was known as Acinipo, which means “land of grapes.” During the medieval period, the Moors also cultivated grapes and made wine.

The modern winemaking industry in Ronda began in the mid-19th century when a group of local farmers formed the Serrania Viticultural Society to improve the quality of the wines produced in the region. It brought in new grape varieties and modern winemaking techniques, and soon Ronda wines gained a reputation for their quality.

In the early 20th century, Ronda was hit hard by the phylloxera epidemic, which destroyed many of the vineyards in the region. It wasn't until the 1980s that winemaking in Ronda began to recover.

Today, Ronda is known for its unique terroir, which is characterised by high altitudes, steep slopes, and a variety of soils. Winemakers in Ronda focus on producing small quantities of high-quality wines, often using traditional techniques and indigenous grape varieties.

Vineyard management

At Bodega Los Frutales, we believe that great wine begins with a deep respect for the natural world. We strive to create a vineyard ecosystem that is sustainable, diverse, and self-sufficient, where every element works together in harmony.

From the very start of our vineyard, we've worked to create a holistic environment that is home to a variety of plants and animals, ensuring that our vineyard thrives on its own.
